Wow, What A Week!
Firedog fans, do not despair, your long awaited update has arrived. We spent the last week in Florida with the Falconer/Luna clan, enjoying the sunshine and warm breezes, eating far too much Peanut Butter Capt'n Crunch (hey, we were on vacation), swimming, playing mini-putt, and generally just taking it easy™. So go to the bathroom, grab a beverage, and flex that mouse finger.
It was a week of Firsts for Ben. It seems like he matured a month in the short time we were in Ft. Myers Beach.
First "First": Airplane Ride!
Ben did so great on the trip down, slept pretty much the entire time. On the way home he was awake a bit more, but still mostly slept. The rest of the time he was busy flirting with sorority girls.
Once we finally got to the condo, Ben was quick to start showing off his new tricks for Grandma B.
AJ and John were also excited for Baby Ben to be there.
Swimmin!
As predicted, by the end of the week, we could barely drag AJ and John out of the pool. AJ swam all on his own, and learned how to use a snorkel, fins, and goggles. Ben loved being in the water, but also enjoyed chilling pool-side with a gossip rag. Oh, Brangelina, what will you do next!?
Beach Bum
We didn't spend a ton of time at the beach, but as we're discovering, Ben is quick to adapt to just about any situation we put him in. He fully understood the benefits of snoozin' under an umbrella on the sand.
Pelicans
The pelicans on Ft. Myers Beach seemed to be pretty much fearless, and fairly smart about where they could get their next meal, typically from the old dudes fishing from the beach.
Food!
Grandma B was so excited to feed Ben his first rice cereal. He of course went after it like it was made outta ham, and later in the week went on to sample his first bananas and sweet potato baby food.
In the event you just can't get enough documentation of our child eating, here's a couple more videos.
By the end of the week, Ben was incorporating polite dinner conversation into his meals.
On Wednesday we went over to Sanibel Island to visit some friends and take a dolphin tour. It's pretty much guaranteed you'll see bottlenosed dolphin, since the Sanibel / Ft. Myers area is one of the few places they live year-round, and have a built-in food supply due to the mangroves and currents. It also helps that they're usually in about 4-5 feet of water, making it especially easy to spot their fins.
Even More Vacay Pics
Of course John couldn't leave home without his favorite boots. They come in handy when you're eatin' HICECREAM! Or, when flying on the HAIRPLANE! Best worn on the opposite feet.
Latest First: Sitting Up!
Toward the end of the week, Ben started to sit up for extended periods of time, and was even able to bend down to get a toy and right himself.
Whew! Wow, if you made it this far, congratulations! You're officially a Firedog Fanatic. We'll get t-shirts made or something.
