Indoor Fun

It continues to be real, no foolin' winter here in Chicago, so we are spending a lot of time indoors.

The morning after the Super Bowl, I think Ben probably felt like much of the rest of the country. Because he's a toddler, he gets to curl up on the bathroom floor with his blankie and take a nap. Because you're not, you have to take a shower and go to work.

Anyone need their checkbook balanced?

Ben is pretty much a crack addict except for yogurt. It's not enough to go to the fridge and get one yogurt. No. He insists on pulling ALL the yogurt out and inspecting it, rearranging it, stacking it, and then screeching at it. Eventually, he settles into his feeding station to feast on his prey.

Finger-painting quickly devolves into Ben- and Dad-painting.

Can Ben also do our taxes? We have everything pulled together for him...

Jack thinks that spoon/yogurt technique looks pretty good, but wonders why Ben hasn't also implemented the "bang the spoon full of food on the highchair before putting it in your mouth, thus flinging all food OFF the spoon" method? Jack feels it's superior. John and I aren't really so sure...We are hopeful that Ben's "classic" spoon technique will grow more appealing to Jack soon...

I am not quite sure what has happened to us as a culture that I am terribly envious of Ben sleeping on the bathroom floor like that. Why does that look like such a good thing? I logged enough time there in my 20s.... you think I wouldn't miss it at all.

If it makes you feel any better, Becky, Ben's "classic" spoon technique has a second part to it: once you're pretty much done eating, take everything (spoon, yogurt container, sippy cup, as well as any other food that might be in front of you) and fling it across the kitchen floor. This is how you signify "all done." We are trying desperately to teach him to just sign "all done," but I don't think it's as much fun for him. Also, the dog is in favor of Ben's current technique and has gained five pounds.
