Mmmm... Cake.
Ben got a mini baking set for Christmas because he likes helping us cook so much. He decided today was a good day to break it out.

(Ben)evolent Ruler gave us an unexpected reprieve this morning, sleeping until 9:30! Perfect timing to get up and go for brunch with Val, Jeff, Liz and Brad at Eleven City Diner in the south loop.
Later in the afternoon, Lisa decided Ben needed some good ol' fashioned stomp-around-in-the-rain time, so they did some gardening while dad went to the Jewel.
When I got back they were investigating a worm and pouring water out of the recycling bin. This eventually turned into "cleaning" off the porch by dumping water all over the place over and over. Look at that freshly painted porch!
Then, banana bread was made. And Ben helped! The photo on the right is the first one where I see some of Lloyd in Ben. That's a total Lloyd face.
Lunch:
- Milk
- Ketchup
Ben has discovered that he LOOOOVES sunbutter (it's pretty much like peanut butter but made with sunflower seeds). We can only feed it to him right before bath time.
It continues to be real, no foolin' winter here in Chicago, so we are spending a lot of time indoors.
The morning after the Super Bowl, I think Ben probably felt like much of the rest of the country. Because he's a toddler, he gets to curl up on the bathroom floor with his blankie and take a nap. Because you're not, you have to take a shower and go to work.

Anyone need their checkbook balanced?
Ben is pretty much a crack addict except for yogurt. It's not enough to go to the fridge and get one yogurt. No. He insists on pulling ALL the yogurt out and inspecting it, rearranging it, stacking it, and then screeching at it. Eventually, he settles into his feeding station to feast on his prey.
Finger-painting quickly devolves into Ben- and Dad-painting.
You know what's a good idea? Giving a 15 month-old chocolate a half hour before bedtime.
Earlier today, Ben decided to borrow my boots.
Despite Ben's love of pretty much anything we put in front of him, apparently we're not feeding him enough, 'cause he's a statistical string bean! He had his 9 month checkup last week, and while he's 90-95% for height, he's around 10-25% for weight. So, Lisa's mom and aunt came this weekend with the goal to have him pack on 10 lbs. before they left. Or at least that's what it seemed like. One thing's for sure, the kid loves Korean food.
We also got the rare "Both Grandmas and Ben" photo, since Grandma B won't see Ben for nearly a month, she had to get in some quality time. Wow, that's a nice fence they're standing next to!
It's been a weekend filled with friends and family at Chez Falconer. Grandma and Grandpa are here from Ohio, Lisa's cousin Anna is here visiting from LA with some friends (and instant honorary aunts to Ben). On Friday night, Val, Jeff, Karen, Ethan and Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. (the French Bulldog) came over to take advantage of the perfect "hanging out in a backyard with a fire" weather.
Ben continues to expand his culinary horizons. This morning he got to try mom's world famous blueberry pancakes. Yum!
Lisa introduced Ben to the wonders of Cheerios-esque cereal. He, of course, loves it. Other skill acquisitions this week include much improved transitions between standing and kneeling/scrambling, extended periods of holding on to our TV cabinet and alternately sucking on the edge or attempting to play with the DVD player, and free weight rolling.
Oh yeah, Mom and Dad have been married 9 years today. Yay us! Apparently the 9th anniversary is the "Leather" anniversary. Take that for what it's worth.
Ben is becoming more and more adventurous and curious about what goes into his maw, and not just random edges of furniture. He wants what we're eating, a trend that has been confirmed at day care. When the older kids eat, Ben wants to eat.
Here Ben is enjoying some beef mushroom broth at JMK Nippon, an excellent teppanyaki institution in Rockford. This past weekend was chock full of new tastes. Lots of pictures after the jump.
AJ told us they were having pizza for dinner, and that sounded good to us.
Ben seems to like it, too. Sauce anyway...
Ben's been trying all sorts of new things lately. He seems to really like avocado, and loves sucking on mashed bananas through a strainer. Graf even gave him a sippy cup the other day.
He's also beginning to figure out the whole sleep thing. The past few days have found us sleeping the longest stretches since, oh, last September?
